Belgian born and now based in New York, USA, Mike Dierickx is a producer, remixer and DJ and has a multitude of guises he produced and remixed under, most notably M.I.K.E., Push and Plastic Boy. He is responsible for hundreds of productions on various labels that reside under the Bonzai umbrella and has worked with many artists including Laurent Veronnez/Airwave, Yves Deruyter, Guy Naets, Frank Sels, Jurgen Leyers aka DJ Fire, John 00 Fleming, Armin Van Buuren and lots lots more.
As a DJ, his style is very similar to the music he makes which is progressive trance with a techy edge. He is at the forefront of Europe’s new sound regularly topping the dance charts in several leading countries.
When he was 11 he discovered the potential of samplers and keyboards, his interest in electronic music developed further over the next few years. At the age of 18, Mike handed his first demo tape to the Antwerp-based record company, USA Import. Shortly after, his first record “Vision Act” was released on the Atom label in 1992. Mike released a series of successful records before he signed up with Lightning back in 1996.
He has many releases on labels like XTC, Bonzai Trance Progressive, Bonzai Records, Axma, Zounds, Scanner, Musashi, Bonzai Limited, Tripomatic and Green Martian. During the nineties many underground club hits would emerge with the fast becoming famous M.I.K.E. sound, releases like Virtua Trancer “Blind To The Darkness” and “Deep Fear”, Galore “I Call You”, Return Of The Native “The Lost Tale”, The Blackmaster “Time Never Stops” and M.I.K.E. “Phrase One” and the list goes on and on.
He became very popular in 1998 with “Universal Nation” under his Push guise on Bonzai Records which won several dance music awards, and is recognized as one of the classic dance records of the trance era until this day. With this success in worldwide dance charts the Belgian dance scene was now firmly on the map. His follow up single “Strange World” was also a hit and played throughout hundreds of clubs all across Europe. This was followed by another excellent release, “The Legacy”, once again topping most dance charts across Europe and entering the British National charts at number 21. Over the years Mike received several music awards including best club singles and best dance producer, and entered 6 times the national Top 40 in the UK.
He has released studio albums including “From Beyond”, “Strange World” and “Electric Eclipse”, all of which received critical acclaim.
He has also remixed artists like Sinead O’Connor, Moby, Mauro Picotto, Bomfunk MC’s, Oliver Lieb, Psy’Aviah and Ian Van Dahl. This kind of success did not go unnoticed as he was asked to DJ at some of the best venues in the world including Gatecrasher and Godskitchen in the UK, Fura and Velfarre in Japan, Dance Valley and Trance Energy in the Netherlands and Spirit and Spundae in the U.S.
Mike started up his own label, Scanner Records and the music stands for minimal electric dance. The project is on hold as he is concentrating on his label Club Elite.
Nowadays Mike has moved on to discover new musical ventures and continues to be a major player and influence on today’s EDM scene.
